Floating the Boise River

Nothing says summer in Boise like floating the Boise River!  Of course, we have had a fairly cool summer, so our opportunities to float have not been as frequent.  With school starting in a little over a week, we figured we'd better hit the river this weekend, if we were going to get out there before summer ws over.  Saturday was a warm day (high around 95), so we inflated the SS Webster and set "sail" around 2pm.

It was a beautiful day out on the river!

I sat on the front and Fred steered from the back.

 

The kids had a great time (as did we)!

 

We saw these adorable golden retrievers all going after the same stick in the water, as we floated by.

Here is our beautiful new Parkcenter Bridge that is very near completion.  It is scheduled to open before school starts on Monday, Aug. 31st.  it will make out commute to school much better!

All in all a very fun afternoon!

 

Relaxing on the River

One of the fun things to do in Boise in the summer is float down the Boise River.  Thousands do it every summer.  There is even a shuttle set up between where you "drop in" and where you "pull out".  Like all my fancy river rafting jargon?  You can also rent rafts or inner tubes.  We decided to purchase our own little raft and all pile into it.  Sinking was a definite possibility.

Before we hit the water we decided to do a dry run out on the lawn and see if we would all fit and have a picnic lunch before we headed out.

We all fit, so it was off to the river!  We decided to drop in at Barber Park-just up the river from where we live, and drop another car off a few miles down the river from where we live.

We hit the water and had a great time!  Lindsay sat out in front to direct and Fred sat in the rear so he could steer.  I sat back and relaxed!  We hit a few little rapids and got wet, but for the most part it was smooth "sailing". 

Lindsay did sacrifice herself at one point near the end of our float to rescue an oar that was lost post-rapids.  She jumped out of the raft and swam in the river to get the oar.  She managed to get the oar, but then we had floated so far ahead we couldn't get back to her.  We managed to pull over to the side of the river and wait for her to float down stream to us.  All ended well and we had a fun afternoon on the river!
